In 1992 noted Austin-Healey specialists Murray Scott-Nelson imported the car back to the UK. The car was converted to RHD and received further improvements including overhaul of the gearbox and reconditioned overdrive unit. In 1993 the 3000 was purchased by a Mr. Murray of Buckinghamshire.

In May 1996 Mr. Murray commissioned Dan Force Restorations of Leominster to remove and re-chrome the windscreen frame and rebuild with new glass, rubbers and brackets. In 1999 Dan Force carried out a full engine rebuild which included a hot caustic soak of cylinder block, cylinder head, sump, conrods and crankshaft. The block was rebored and skimmed, the conrods refaced, big-end eyes honed and crank reground. New cam, main and big and little end bearings were all installed along with new core plugs.

The cylinder head was bead blasted and exhaust valve seats machined, recut, hardened and new valve springs and guides installed. New pistons were fitted, and the camshaft was reprofiled. The oilways were cleaned, and new oil gallery plugs installed. Hampshire Austin-Healey specialists Rawles fitted a new clutch in 2009 and four new silver-painted wire wheels and Michelin tyres were supplied in 2016 by classic car wheel experts MWS International.

The car was acquired by the current owner in 2019 who commissioned Rawles to carry out further works which included rebuilding the steering box and the installation of a new steering column. A new offside rear wheel hub and wheel bearing were fitted along with a reconditioned nearside front shock absorber, new top trunnion rubber bushes, new rear exhaust clamps, hoses, clutch flexi hose, and new bullet connectors to the rear wiring loom. The engine was serviced with new oil, filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. The final invoice totalled £5,353.00.

Presenting attractively in red over off-white our 3000 is eminently usable having received extensive restorative and maintenance work over the last twenty years by recognised marque specialists and is accompanied by hood and side-screens and a history file containing invoices, MOT certificates and British Motor Heritage certificate.

The retrospectively named Mk I is the purest variant of the 3000 line before the roadster evolved into more of a touring car with roll-up windows and wooden dashboard. Our example is now ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
