David is also a director of Phoenix Green Garage Sales Ltd, specialists in the sale of thoroughbred sports cars from pre-war to the 1960s.
Phoenix Green Garage has been long been established as a destination and meeting place for vintage car enthusiasts. The garage is also considered the spiritual home of the VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club) as the club was formed there October 1934 by then Phoenix Green Garage proprietors LTC Rolt, John Passini and landlord of the adjacent Phoenix Inn and Brooklands racing driver Tim Carson.
Adverts from the 1930s declared The Phoenix Green Garage as ‘home of the Vauxhall 30/98’. Other brands of thoroughbred sports cars were stocked too including Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ballot, MG, Itala, Bentley, Lagonda, Renault, Delage and Alvis. Rolt and Passini sold their cars with a guarantee which varied according to the price; the cheaper cars were guaranteed to pull themselves off the premises whereas the more expensive vehicles were guaranteed to get their new owner to London. The garage also employed a 1911 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost as a breakdown truck complete with crane attached to its rear deck.
Today Phoenix Green Garage Sales Ltd. carries on the tradition of the providing thoroughbred sports cars to enthusiasts and remains a venue for club meets and events where owners of pre-war Alfa Romeos, Bugattis, Frazer Nashes, Lancias and more congregate around their cars to share stories with like-minded enthusiasts and appreciate the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the The Phoenix Inn.
